Bio

Anna Jane McIntyre is an interdisciplinary, intercultural artist with a practice rooted in drawing and combining sculpture, traditional and experimental printmaking, performance and micro-activism. She holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art &Design in Toronto and an MFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University, Montréal.

McIntyre's work explores animism, ritual, the invisible, the imagined, the agreed upon, balance and the powerful allure of the asymmetrical. Her illustrations have been published by House of Anansi Press, Walrus magazine, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Poiesis, Peace magazine, Hamilton Arts & Letters, Broken Pencil, Itch magazine and Atelier Graff.

McIntyre has participated in various experimental performance works that have been presented at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Buddy in Bad Times theatre, Casa Del Popolo, Théâtre St. Catherine and the Brooklyn Panoply Performance Lab. She has received travel grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, as well as production grants from the Centre interuniversitaire des arts médiatiques (CIAM) and Société d'État relevant du ministre de la Culture et des Communication (SODEC). She recently completed residencies at Martha Street Studio in Winnipeg through the Programme d’échanges transcanadiens and at St.Michael's Print Studio in St. John's Newfoundland.
