“Painting is my form of self expression. I want my paintings to express what I cannot communicate in words. My desire is to awaken something within and speak the spirit and energy that inspired me during the creation process. As an artist my work is ever evolving. It is a continual process of reinventing myself. All of my work is a joyous and challenging expression, as it requires the painting to come from within.” I journeyed into painting 25 years ago while teaching Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Colorado. Being self-taught, I developed my own unique style of contemporary representational and abstract works from years of experimenting with both a palette knife and brushes. My experience as a fine artist, photographer and graphic designer is infused in each painting I create resulting in colorful canvases conveying interpretations of my many cherished subjects including florals and landscapes. I began painting in pastels, which allowed me to paint and draw at the same. From there I moved to oils where I created impressionistic representational imagery with brush and palette knife from images photographed in my many travels around the world. I have now delved into the exciting world of abstraction as a further means of artistic expression. At this stage of my life and career, I worry less about which subject might sell and challenge myself to stay in the place of painting purely from my heart looking for subject matter that speaks to something within me. I consider myself so fortunate to have the passion to express myself through the act of fine art painting, a lifelong spiritual journey. It gives me a sense of purpose and a connection with something larger than myself. What Inspires As an observer of Nature, my inspiration comes from the endless and infinite variety that she provides. It challenges me to interpret and express on canvas the glorious beauty that is found all over this world. My passion is to look at the world thru the lens of a camera hunting for compositions that nature has already made for me to express with a palette knife and brushes. My painting technique and style comes from studying artists around the world who inspire new ideas and ways to approach painting. I am influenced by a variety of artists, from the Impressionists to the Abstract Expressionists. With the advent of the Internet one can find innumerable artists whose work speaks to me and inspires new ideas.
