Artist's Statement
Color, light and luminosity are the main themes of most of my current work and series. Working primarily with acrylic paints and mediums, colors and metallic powders are used in a variety of innovative techniques, many of which have been developed over years, allowing various pigments and metal particles to separate, flow and combine. Depth is created by adding as many as ten or more semi-window layers, after each previous layer is dry. Metallic paint and metal leaf accents are also used where light and luminosity play with transparency, depth and reflection. Living in the Palm Springs desert area, clear blue skies and plenty of sunlight help inspire and influence the process and resulting artwork. Each piece of art demonstrates a unique flow, rhythm and movement of color and light where patterns and shapes play off of each other. Color expresses emotion as well. When people look at my art, I want them to feel that emotion, as happiness, hope, peace, joy, passion or even humor. I am grateful when viewers and collectors describe how beautiful the colors and layered light is and how emotionally moved they feel. It is my hope that I am able to create a work of arf that is pleasing, joyful and uplifting to the viewer. To fully express myself and grow as an artist, I am always exploring different techniques and means of creative expression. This allows me to refresh my mind, recharge my soul and feed my passion to create. It is my sincere desire to share my artwork with you. Each painting and piece of art has the potential to make a special connection with someone. I hope that special connection with that unique piece of art is with you. Thank you for visiting and viewing my artwork.

Douglas Fischer lives in the Palm Springs area of California, born and raised in Seattle, Washington. A large selection of crayons and plenty of drawing paper fueled his early childhood creative expression. From crayons, to colored pencils and ink markers, Doug attempted his first oil paintings after discovering the neighborhood art store at the age of eleven. Always drawn to light and color, Doug began to explore and develop the more free-form style of abstract expressionism Today, whether utilizing acrylics, ink, enamel, metallic powders and iridescent metallic paints combined with paper, canvas, clear acrylic panels, glass and even metal, Doug expresses his boundless imagination, curiosity and creative energy and his love affair with color, light and luminosity. The end result, layers of paint, powders and clear glazes allow the viewer to look deep inside. As the light changes, the viewer experiences new and differing perspectives of the artwork. Viewers and collectors are often deeply moved by the depth, reflection and luminescence of these beautiful pieces of art. Doug is a member of the juried "Desert Art Center", which is an Artist Organization, Cooperative Gallery and Arts Education Center in Palm Springs, California. In addition he is a member of and supports the "Arts Oasis", Creative California Desert. He also keeps his membership current in the juried "Association of Hawaii Artists". He maintains a home and studio in Palm Desert, California, where he currently resides, and enjoys occasionally returning to Honolulu and Seattle for inspiration.
