Fresco of Casarotto Traditional fresco technique the so called “affresco” is a type of mural painting realized by colors pigments , either blended or diluted , applied on wet plaster, with lime as white background The plaster has a dual layer : the “arricciato” (rendered) and “tonachino” The former is placed direclty on the supporting wall , composed by one third of lime and the rest of sand, thinner than the one used for ‘arricciato’, a mixture to which a marble’s powder is added to the first layer when is fully dried. The ‘tonachino’ – to be kept humid at all times during the work, is laid a bit at a time, upon the daily work scheduled by the painter. The colorants suitable to fresco painting , with the highest resistance to lime, are iron oxide, blue cobalt and green The fresco can have splendid results, but it requires a full command of the technique, the ability in fast and first hand painting , as hesitations or corrections are not allowed
