Artist's Statement
My inspiration to paint is driven by a visceral response to the world around me. The Irish landscape charms me into capturing the play between light and shadow, dramatic skies and rugged coastlines. I am fascinated by the amazing colour and cloud formations of the Irish sunset. It could be said that I go around with my head in the clouds – Figuratively speaking of course! My goal is to capture the essence of this beauty and share it with you in order to stimulate a sense of well-being and harmony. I also love to travel and experience different panoramas and cultures. I have a particular affinity with the East and visits to Vietnam, Cambodia, etc. contribute to how I view the world around me. It releases a whole new perspective and allows scope for the imagination to run wild. The possibilities are endless and something that I enjoy taking to whatever destination the journey dictates. I like to work mainly in oils, manipulating its properties to create layers of rich texture. I work on my painting until I feel it can tell its own story. Weather permitting, I like to paint outdoors (en plein air). This creates a sense of immediacy to capture the changing light and you have to work quickly. This can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. I am a regular visitor to the annual international event in Wexford "Art in the Open". This is Europe’s largest open air painting festival. I exhibit in selected galleries and group exhibitions in Ireland and my work is represented in collections both in Ireland and abroad. I also have had the honour to have received a number of international awards.

Dublin born artist Donna McGee comes from a background in financial services. Since her childhood days, she has always had a passion for painting. Having juggled to create a sense of balance with family commitments and a busy work life, she chose to pursue her love of art. She immersed herself fully in the art-world and set up a studio at her home. She is largely self-taught and has developed a unique style, encompassing a diverse range of influences. Donna loves to travel and is a regular visitor to the west coast of Ireland. She strives to capture the restless elemental forces of the Irish landscape and to celebrate its timeless beauty in her work. Her preferred medium is oils and also enjoys the use of palette knives which allow for the creation of rich textures in impasto style, resulting in a dynamic and raw energy. Weather permitting, Donna likes to paint outdoors (en plein air) and is a regular visitor to the annual international event in Wexford Art in the Open – Europe’s largest open air painting festival. Donna exhibits in selected galleries and group exhibitions in Ireland. Her work is represented in collections both in Ireland and abroad and she has received a number of international awards.
