Jessica Streeter's Artist Profile
Jessica Streeter from Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States
i like artist
I never set out to be an artist. Growing up, I dealt with artists with egos the size of small countries and found them intolerable. I never wanted to be an artist, since it meant being like them. Even so, I was gifted with a strong sense of creativity and imagination. I had things I wanted to express, dreams and adventures waiting to be had, if I'd just be artistic. So I did the next best thing to being a visual artist: I became a writer. It still wasn't quite enough. I found myself playing with cameras, wishing I had one to capture the world as I saw it. I'd wear my cheap 35mm cameras to death, taking photos of the most simple things, all because I saw something interesting in them. Silhouettes, clouds, flowers, all attempting to draw your eye to the way I see the world. Eventually, I gave in. Got myself a good camera. I still take photos that many people don't get why I took it, but the fact remains that I am just trying to show you the world through my eyes. Through photos or words, that is all I have ever done. I am still not an artist.

Born and raised amongst the natural scenery of Michigan, Jessica Streeter grew up to appreciate the beauty in everything about her. In her early 20's, she traded Michigan's beaches for Colorado's mountains, and kept her awe and wonder of the world around her. Her awe and wonder, however, did not pay the bills very well, so when the job market collapsed a few short years later, she found herself having to leave the scenery she'd grown to love and head on back to Michigan, where she resides today. She's never had a class about photography, and the closest she ever got to an art class was one in high school that she transferred out of after a couple weeks. Despite her lack of formal training, she has been playing with still and video cameras since she was a child. While her technique may be rough, she is always seeking to improve her skills so as to better express her love and vision of the world around her. In her spare time, she helps takes care of a swarm of cats, continues working on her unfinished epic of a novel, makes jewelry with her mother, bakes with her father, and contemplates other artistic endeavors to be explored.
