Artist comment about this artwork: "A bright winter morning walk up Carn Brea hill in Cornwall in the UK provided all the inspiration I needed to help me see this industrial heritage as an ongoing and living part of our culture and to aim to express that in a painting The characteristic engine house and winding gear that I could see from there were not features of romantic ruin like so many that appear in Cornish landscapes but in working order surrounded by other industrial installations and power lines I could see that Cornwalls industrial heart a cleaner healthier heart than existed in the past is beating still".

Formative years spent in equatorial Africa were followed by school in Yorkshire and a Fine Art Degree at Newcastle-upon Tyne University. Awarded a Bunzl travel scholarship, he then spent two further years travelling and studying art in Europe while based in Florence. Settling back in the United Kingdom led to a twenty-four year career in art teaching. He left teaching in 1999 to devote more time to painting and has exhibited widely since then. He now operates from his studio in the heart of Cornwall
