Born in 1928 Clyde C. Engert began watercolor painting at age 5 with a box of paints his mother gave him. He promptly smeared them on her tablecloth and was relieved of the paints – the first of many “retirements.”
Retirements from Trans World Airlines (TWA), the State of Kansas and his own technology company. His timw is now spent in pencil drawing,painting in both oil and water.
He has won numerous awards in both pencil and watercoloring work. He has produced many drawings of homes under contract with owners. In addition he hand crafted a violin that was played at his daughters wedding, built and flew an airplane. As a pilot he has flown many hours in many different airplanes. Since retiring, he is devoting his time to creating artwork with pencil and brushes.
time producing oil paintings, making furniture, restoring & flying a Taylorcraft L2B military plane, and building & flying an experimental Zenith 701 light sport plane.
In 2006 he returned to watercolors, taking classes at the Wichita Center for the Arts and Wichita City Arts. He now keeps busy with both pencil sketching and painting with watercolors – no further retirements anticipated.
Clyde and his wife make their home in Andover, KS.
