Celeste Groenewald was born in Kimberley, South Africa, in 1992. Growing up in a home environment saturated with art and good music naturally shaped an artistic disposition at a young age. She moved to Bloemfontein in 2012 to pursue her degree in Fine Art, which she finally earned in 2015.
Since then, Celeste has tried to work within the fine art field despite its challenges, particularly in South Africa. She now works for Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein.
As an artist, Celeste is restless; she often experiments with and mixes media, from Mercurochrome and ink to thick acrylics in digital collages. Her work swings between precision and looseness, roughness and intricacy.
Nature, psychology, dreams, symbolism and esoterica inspire the themes Celeste works with. Her works are often small; this, she believes, encourages her viewers to get closer to the work and look at it longer. She also has a fascination with portraiture, animals, and studies to play with and improve her technique and observational skills.
