Art by the Artist Jerry Harris

I am a self taught artist who has been passionate about drawing for as long as I could hold a crayon or a pencil. I have worked at one of the top advertising companies for many years as a mechanical artist and assistant art director. I attended Visual Arts for 2 years studying advertising. I also and went on to work for various printing companies.
I am a native New Yorker currently living in New Jersey with my family. I started painting 3 dimensional art while working at the advertising company in New York. We were pitching for a very large account for several months. When we won the client, our Creative Director was so happy that she went around dancing and throwing pistachio nuts to everyone involved with the campaign. She was acting like such a nut, I took one of the shells and drew her face on it and laid it down and went to lunch. When I returned to my desk I was surprised to see a Polaroid snap shot that I had taken earlier had the head of a person popping out of it. The head that was popping out at me was the pistachio nut shell I had drew a face on before lunch and placed it on top of a person in the snap shot. After that I starting using pistachio nut shells which are in the shape of human head for most of my paintings, Than a whole new world of new ideals and things like using broken car glass pencil shaving, wire and other things I could use to create my art that is how I began making 3 dimensional art.
Most of my paintings are scenes from events with crowds; sport events like the triathlon with swimming, running and biking, rush hour above and below the ground, Church events and were ever lots people get together for other events. Being a New Yorker and being attracted to people in crowds I am inspired when ever I go to New York City. I have displayed my art at a few galleries, Colleges Churches, and home showing and sold a few pieces. The mediums I use are acrylic paints, pistachio nut shells broken car glass, wire, wood, and other things.
