I grew up in Pennsauken, NJ, Carol Lotstein, after high school I attended Moore College of Art and Design and graduated in 1977 with a BFA. I married my high school sweetheart, Alan Gartzman, had two children, Sheera and Steven. In 1985 I became a widow and eventually married Bruce Gooberman and had two more children, Evan and Marcy. We now live in Haddonfield, NJ.
Immediately following my graduation from college I worked in various advertising agencies. In 1987 I opened the Art Depot, an art school in Merchantville, NJ where I taught classes for adults, teens and children. I have continued to teach adults in drawing, oil and watercolor painting and pastels.
I always continued my art education by taking oil painting, pastel and watercolor classes.
During the summer months I participate in outdoor Art and Crafts Festivals in NJ.
I painted a series of 10 "Memory" paintings of various activities such as baking, gardening, dress up, story time, and other activities shared by grandparents and their loved ones. The paintings are reproduced and embellished with touchable objects, then sold to Alzheimer Centers to provide visual and tactile contact for the Alzheimer patients.
I volunteer at Lions Gate Senior Care Facility in Voorhees teach an art class to Independent Seniors on Wednesday mornings and then I volunteer in the Alzheimer's Disease section called "Safe Haven" in the afternoon doing an art project with the man and women that live there.
I work in pastel colors using bright sun light to create colorful shadows and reflections. My work has been described as "soft realism". I paint Victorian themes with women and children, beach scenes, cats, sunsets, etc. I especially enjoy when someone sees my work and feels that each picture is a happy reminder of a family member, a cat or a special scene.
I also enjoy painting portraits from photographs that I take or photos the client provides for me.
I just finished an extensive mural project in my husband Bruce Gooberman's Pediatric office in Cherry Hill, NJ. He also has many of my original art work hanging on the walls of his hallways.
I have shown my work at:
The Haddon Fortnightly
Medford Lees
Markeim Arts Center
Jewish Comm. Center of SNJ
Immaculata College
on line shows for Still Point Art Gallery
I have 2 giclees and one original permanently at the Atlanticare Hospital in the Pediatric Emergency section.
